Vindesines I, useful in the treatment of leukemia (no data),were prepd. Thus, 8.4mg NaNO2 was mixed with 77mg 4-desacetly-VLB-C-3-carboxyhdrazide in 2ml 1N-HCL at 0≦̸C for 5min. followed by the addn. of cold satd. NaHCO3. The resulting mixt, was extd. with cold MeCl2 to give 4-desacetyl-VLB-C-3-carboxazide, which was dissolved in 7mL THF and condensed with Ph3P. This reaction mixt. was treated with THF and chromatographed to give indesines as main products.
