A paper-web dewatering process consists of running a web and support felt between a press nip to express water, blanketing the exposed web surface with steam as it leaves the nip, and applying suction to its underside to draw water from the web into the felr and steam in the wed. Pref, the suction is applied by a roller. Increased water removal puts less load on a subsequent drier section.
