The invention relates to a filtering device for the gateway to a videotex network. According to the invention, this device comprises a processor 21 interposed between an automatic answering modem 22 and a dialling modem 23, configured in order: to receive identification characters from the requested server 9, composed from the videotex terminal 6, and to ascertain whether this server forms part of a predetermined list of authorised servers and, in the event of authorisation, to generate a telephone number for access to the requested server via the dialling modem 23 for carriage thereof to the videotex network, to detect characters indicative of the identification of the requested server, and characters indicative of the start and end of the communication, and to effect, during the communication, the transfer of the characters from the automatic answering modem 22 to the dialling modem 23, and vice versa.
