PURPOSE:To prevent the slip of a solidified shell and to decrease the abrasion or breakout of twin mold rolls, by pressing the shell to the rolls by utilizing gaseous pressure when the level of molten metal lowers in the initial and end periods of casting. CONSTITUTION:A gate 5 is disposed on twin mold rolls 1 which are in proximity to each other, and the top surface of said gate is closed tightly. Molten metal 6 is charged into the gate, and a gas (e.g., gaseous argon) is supplied into the gate. The solidified shell 7 formed on the roll 1 is pressed to the rolls by prescribed gaseous pressure and the hydrostatic pressure of the molten metal, then the rolls 1 are rotated to draw out an ingot 8. The pressure of the gas is thus increased and the decrease in the hydrostatic pressure of the metal 6 is offset when the level of the molten metal lowers in the initial and end periods of casting. |
