PURPOSE:To reduce the entire weight of a machine inspite of low power consumption by making the width of the end face of a scrolled part of a movable scroll member narrower than that of the end face of a scrolled part of a fixed scroll one and making the scrolled part thereof higher than that of the fixed one. CONSTITUTION:The width W1 of the end face of a scrolled part 9c of a movable scroll member is set shorter than the width W2 of the end face of a scrolled part 15b of a fixed scroll member. The height H1 of the scrolled part 9c measured from a base plate 9a is set longer than the height H2 of the scrolled part 15b measured from the base plate 15a, exhibiting a fine gap G between the end face of the scrolled part 15b and the base plate 9a. When compression effort is applied, the fixed scroll member 15 is let to press the movable scroll member 9, so that the weight of the movable scroll member 9 may be lessened without any degrading of the sealing performance. A starting torque and a shock generated at starting may be relieved and power consumption can be reduced.
