PURPOSE:To perform focus detection securely by selecting a block corresponding to an area with a narrow visual field and a block corresponding to an area with a wide visual field by a focusing detection sensitivity area switching means and switching the size of an area of focus detection arithmetic. CONSTITUTION:An arithmetic means finds a shift position where the best correlation is obtained by shifting both the 1st and the 2nd photoelectric converting element arrays 12 and 14 in position relatively from signals from both the arrays 12 and 14 which indicate illumination distributions. Further, the focusing detection sensitivity switching means Swn selects the block corresponding to the area with the narrow visual field and the block corresponding to the area with the wide visual field among plural blocks of the 1st photoelectric transducer array 12 which are divided to the specific number of picture elements, and sends the outputs of the selected blocks to the arithmetic means. Consequently, if there is a subject which impedes focusing detecting operation, a small spot- shaped focusing detection area is selected and when a moving subject is photographed, a wide focusing detection area is selected. |
