PURPOSE:To improve the picture quality of both a dot decentralization type pattern and a centralization type pattern and to binary coding the luminance level to deliver a pseudo density pattern, by providing a conversion table which converts both patterns respectively. CONSTITUTION:The luminance level of variable density pictures of an original is detected from a matrix of 0-15 corresponding to (4X4) picture elements on a line memory by a soft copy device 1. In this case, the luminance level is detected with the threshold value and fed to a picture memory 2 in the form of a white/black decentralization type pattern. The contents of the memory 2 are converted into a centralization type matrix from the decentralization type matrix for each (n=16) bits by a conversion table 3 and stored in a picture memory 4 in the form of a centralization type matrix. Then the contents of the memory 4 are added to a hard copy device 5 suitable to the centralization type pattern. Thus the variable density pictures read out of an original are recorded satisfactorily. |
