The pin consists of two ceramic parts (a,b). One part (a) includes a shaft (1) terminating in a striker point (15) and surrounded coaxially by part (b). In one pref. design, part (a) consists of a shaft with a ring collar, and is made of a ceramic with a hardness above 75 HRC-45N. Part (a) is located in a counterbored ring (b) with a higher density than part (a), esp. where part (b) has a density above 6.0. Part (b) pref. rests on the ring collar on part (a). In another pref. design, part (b) rests on the top end of shaft (a). The mines are normally made of materials which are non-metallic and non-magnetic, possessing low mechanical strength; but a hard firing pin is required, and the invention provides suitable pins.
