PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound having excellent stereospecificity, in high yield, with easy operation and simple apparatus, in short steps, by contacting 12-(2-tetrahydropyranyloxy)-cis-9-dodecenoic acid alkyl ester (novel compound) with an acid catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula III having a cis-ratio of >=93% is prepared in a yield of as high as >=80%, by contacting 8-formyloctanoic acid alkyl ester of formula I (R is lower alkyl) with 3-tetrahydropyranyl-oxypropylene triphenyl phosphorane in an organic solvent to obtain 12-(2-tetrahydropyranyloxy)-cis-9-dedecenoic acid alkyl ester of formula II (a novel compound) in high yield and purity, and contacting the compound with an acid catalyst at 5-80 deg.C for 0.5-24hr preferably in an alcohol solvent. USE:Synthetic intermediate for 9-dodecen-12-olide which is known as a perfumery component of citron having a sweet mint-note fruity smell. |
