PURPOSE:To enable the detection of dirts and flaws on a film original and an optical member with a relatively simple construction, by providing a wavelength selecting means adapted to mainly transmitting infrared rays, a displacing means and a detecting means. CONSTITUTION:When a wavelength selecting means (a) adapted to mainly transmit infrared rays is inserted into an optical path of a reading optical system, an optoelectric transducer is displaced by a displacing means (b) from the image forming position of a projection optical system in substance to read image information of a film original from the optoelectric transducer. Here, this optoelectric, transducer is used in common to read image. Then, on the basis of the image information thus read out, a detecting means (c) detects the position of dirts and flaws on the film original. This eliminates possible deviation in the position between a visible light image data and infrared ray image data, thereby inhibiting detection errors caused by dirts and edges of flaws.
