PURPOSE:To detect the tape speed with extremely high accuracy and with high stability for a long period by calculating the detection data on the rotational speeds of both supply and take-up reels. CONSTITUTION:The detectors FG1 and FG2 detect the rotational speeds of a supply reel 1 and a take-up reel 2 for tape. The outputs of both detectors FG1 and FG2 are outputted after undergoing the waveform shaping through waveform shapers R1 and R2 respectively. Then the cycles of those outputs are measured by cycle measuring instruments M1 and M2 and the values measured by both instruments M1 and M2 are corrected by correcting circuits H1 and H2. The outputs of both circuits H1 and H2 are inputted to an adder AC for adding calculation. Thus the tape speed value is detected. Then the detected speed value is compared with the set one through a comparator C and the error value is outputted as the control value of a reel drive motor for control of the motor revolution. Thus the tape speed is kept at a prescribed level.
