PRODUCTION OF CORROSION RESISTANT IRON AND STEEL

PURPOSE:To produce corrosion resistant iron and steel efficiently and economically with simple means by irradiating high density energy such as laser beams, electron beams, electric discharge beams or the like onto the surfaces of the iron and steel thereby making the same amorphous. CONSTITUTION:A hot strip 1 is passed through the traveling slits 3 of a box body 2. The inside of the body 2 is sealed with sealing plates 5 operated by means of air cylinders 8 and is maintained in a vacuum with a vacuum pump (not shown). Electron beams 11 are irradiated to the top and bottom surfaces of the strip 1 from electron beam generators 7. The generators 7 are so provided and disposed that the focused ends of the beams 11 projected therefrom coincide with the surfaces of the strip 1 and that the beams 11 are irradiated over the entire transverse area of the strip 1. The irradiation area of each beam 11 is suitably about 5mm. diameter by which the surfaces of the strip 1 are brought to an ultra-high temp. and are made amorphous.
