The invention relates to a remote-controlled compression tube for an X-ray apparatus. The compression tube can be pivoted between the X-ray tube (5) and the patient-supporting plate (2) on a support arm (8, 41) from a waiting position into a working position in which it rests against the object being examined (39), and back again. In compression tubes the force acting on the operating lever should be proportional to the force exerted by the compression tube on the patient. In addition, the compression tube should be swivellable out of the beam path in such a way that it cannot collide with the components of the X-ray apparatus. For this purpose, the invention provides for the compression tube (9, 42) to execute a translatory movement extending its working range via the hydraulic cylinder (20, 58) allocated to it on adjustment of the operating lever (11, 68) and a pivoting movement bringing it into its working position, and for the regulating distance of the operating lever to be linearly proportional, at least in parts, to the regulating distance of the compression tube. A compression tube according to the invention is particularly suitable for use in X-ray apparatuses. <IMAGE>
