The wiper blade according to the invention is fitted with a cover made of an elastic, thermally insulating material which surrounds the supporting structure of the wiper blade together with the hinge point for the wiper arm and the free end of the wiper arm and is attached to a wide flange passing round the top piece of the wiper strip. The mobility of the wiper strip or its adaptability to a predetermined windscreen curvature and thus a satisfactory wiping quality in winter operation of the windscreen wiping systems is thereby guaranteed. The method of manufacturing the wiper blade according to the invention sets out from a two-part cover which can be produced as a pressed part and whose first part is drawn over the supporting structure and joined to the wiper blade, and whose second part is drawn over the free end of the wiper arm and then pulled over the first part which is of complementary shape with the second part in the joining region. In this manner, the two parts of the cover are joined together by positive and frictional engagement.
