The device, under the action of water, separates the sleeve-shaped socket and the plug of a mounting for a respiratory mask, preferably for pilots. The socket is connected to a support, for example the helmet on the head of a person, and the plug, to which the respiratory mask is attached, is securely retained in the socket by means of security members which are under prestress and can be unlocked by means of a tab mounted on the plug. This device comprises a housing mounted directly on the plug, in which a spring-loaded bolt is guided which can be adjusted against the force of a compression spring. A lever which can be adjusted by means of the tab is attached to the spring-loaded bolt, and an automatic member which holds the compression spring in the tensioned position engages on the spring-loaded bolt, this member losing its strength in water.
