Variable ferromagnetic substrate for maps

The invention is a ferromagnetic mat for placing behind map sheets and serves as an adhesion substrate for a magnetic pointer which is already known. It is adaptable and adjustable. As desired, it can be used either as a flexible mat in road atlases (Fig. 2) or - with the aid of the associated clamping rail - as a stable board for folding maps (Fig. 4). Allowance is made for the generally conventional cartographic works, the substrate being universally adaptable to all common types and formats. Special prints are not required. With the invention, motorists travelling alone are in particular able to follow the stretch of road continuously while driving and without stopping, and to mark their current location. They can find their bearings more quickly in unknown areas and immediately determine the right direction to take at critical moments. <IMAGE>
