The measurement technique for determining gas components in a gas mixture photoelectrically, which is known for gas components having a marked absorption band, can be simplified and improved by suppressing important error effects in the measurement of the absorption of light in the vicinity of an absorption band of the gas component if the gas measurement path passes through an undisplaced part of the gas mixture and if at least a second measurement value is recorded after changing the length of the gas measurement path in a specified manner.
