The invention proposes an idle speed control device for internal combustion engines having a device (e.g. actuator) controlled by a microcomputer (10) and acting on the internal combustion engine to vary its speed. This variation can, for example, be effected by influencing the fuel/air mixture. Together with the internal combustion engine, the microcomputer forms a control circuit and, as a function of the actual engine speed signals applied and, if required, of further influencing variables, calculates in parallel an engine speed value and an output control signal sequence for the said device (17). This control signal sequence is output on the output side, likewise in parallel. The calculation of the engine speed value takes place in each case following sensor signal flanks and the calculation of a new control signal takes place following the subsequent control signal flank after which, depending on the duty cycle and/or the frequency for the control signal sequence, the larger interval relative to the subsequent control signal flank occurs. In the case of microcomputers without an interrupt and with a relatively slow processing time, this guarantees a rapid execution of the processing operations with the best possible exploitation of the available computation speed. <IMAGE>
