An optical fibre is used as a rod that is clamped at one end and into which there is introduced at the clamping point light which then produces opposite the free end a light point whose deflection from the position of rest is a measure in amount and direction for the force exerted on the optical fibre. The position of the light point can be determined by a suitable light-sensitive element. The sensor is suitable, inter alia, for one- or two-dimensional measurement of accelerations and flow velocities. <IMAGE>
