Ventilation devices (10), which are designed as automatically operable construction units which can each be preassembled and have a supply-air duct (15, 15a) and a return-air duct (16, 16a) as well as an air-conditioning unit (16), are provided in particular for so-called feeder ships for conveying containers (7) whose temperature can be regulated, such as refrigerating containers. Here, the supply-air duct (15, 15a) and the return-air duct (16, 16a) are arranged horizontally and are run separately above one another at a distance corresponding to the vertical distance between the supply-air connection opening (8) and the return-air connection opening (9) of a container (7) and are also connected to one another at one end by the housing (12) of the air-conditioning unit (11). This results in automatically operable ventilation devices of low overall height but of appropriate horizontal length for supplying a multiplicity of containers (7) side-by-side in a row. The supply-air ducts (15, 15a) and return-air ducts (16, 16a) of the ventilation devices (10) can be arranged parallel to the outer skin (2) of the transport ship (1) or across the cargo hold (4), in which arrangement a construction space for the air-conditioning units (11) can always be obtained between struts (3) on the outer skin (2) without reducing the useful space of the cargo hold (4). <IMAGE>
