<p>In order to close a container 12, such as a can of paint, by means of a lid 13, the lid 13 is loosely placed on the top of the container 12 and a frame 4 is then lowered by a first pneumatic cylinder (3, Fig. 2) from an elevated position to a lower position and as shown on the left until a seal 16 on ring 6 contacts the top rim of the container. A vacuum pump is then operated to remove air from the regions 17 and 18, and a second pneumatic cylinder 8 within the frame 4 is caused to lower a sealing plate 7 from an elevated position to a lower position, thus pressing the lid 13 into the top of the container 12 and at the same time effecting vacuum sealing of the container 12. <IMAGE></p> |
