Water reducible, dispersible, corrosion resistant coating compositions and methods for their manufacture are disclosed and demonstrated to be useful for protecting metals from corrosion. The composition comprisies a water reducible, dispersible alkyd resin; a coupling agent; a surfactant; an amine; one or more driers; a chelating agent; water; and in one embodiment, a metallic inhibitor.
