PURPOSE:Novel polyacetylene, having a content of the cis isomer of a specific value or below, a small line width in the electron spin resonance spectrum, improved negative pole and n-doping characteristics, and suitable to the negative pole of a nonaqueous electrolytic cell. CONSTITUTION:Polyacetylene, obtained by washing a cis-rich polyacetylene, preferably obtained by polymerizing at -80-+25 deg.C, and removing the catalyst residue with an acid as much as possible, with carbon tetrachloride, etc., deaerating the washed polyacetylene, and preferably heat-treating the deaerated polyacetylene at 180 deg.C or below under reduced pressure with high-frequency waves, etc., wherein the value of cis content x (mole fraction) is <=0.25 and the value of DELTAHpp-5.7x is <=0.8 (wherein DELTAHpp is a line width in gauss unit of the resonance spectrum of the electron spin at 25 deg.C). |
