PURPOSE:To obtain saccharin economically, by using easily treatable O2-containing gas as an oxidizing agent, bringing it into contact with o-toluenesulfonamide in acetic acid in the presence of a catalyst, purifying the reaction product with water, recovering the Co catalyst and saccharin from the remaining solution. CONSTITUTION:o-Toluenesulfonamide is brought into contact with a molecular oxygen-containing gas in acetic acid solvent in the presence of a catalyst consisting of Co, Mn and Br, acetic acid is separated from the reaction product solution, the reaction product is washed with water, or recrystallized with water, and saccharin is isolated (purified). Finally cobalt salt of saccharin is recovered as crystal from the washed solution after the isolation of saccharin or the mother liquior of the recrystallization, it is circulated through the reaction process, and can be used as the oxidizing catalyst and the reaction product. USE:A food additive (sweetening agent for sugar substitute), intermediate for drugs, agricultural chemicals. |
