PURPOSE:To subject a heavy oil to hydrocracking without causing the occurrence of coke and the clogging of channel, by treating it under specific conditions using a catalyst having a specific pore distribution obtained by supporting a metallic oxide, etc. containing, as an essential component, V or Mo combined with another metal on a porous inorganic carrier such as alumina, etc. CONSTITUTION:In subjecting a heavy oil to hydrocracking, the heavy oil is brought into contact with a catalyst at 420-480 deg.C reaction temperature at 100- 250kg/cm<2> hydrogen pressure, at 0.1-10hr<-1> liquid space velocity so that it is subjected to hydrocracking. The catalyst has pore size distribution of >=60% pore volume having >=200Angstrom diameter, >=40% pore volume having >=300Angstrom diameter, and <=20% pore volume having >=1,000Angstrom diameter, obtained by supporting two or more metallic oxides and/or sulfides such as (A) a combination containing essentially V and one metal among Zn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Ag, Sn, Pb, etc., (B) a combination containing essentially Mo and one metal among Zn, Cu, Ag, Sn, Pb, lanthanide elements, etc. on a porous inorganic carrier consisting of alumina or titania as a main component. |
