PURPOSE:To manufacture a light weight steering rod at high working accuracy and material yield in manufacturing a steering rod for a vehicle by plastic working such as casting using upper and lower dies by using a hollow pipe for material of the rod. CONSTITUTION:Lower half in the section of a hollow pipe 38 of a blank material is set to a caliber 32 provided in a lower die 30 and pressed by impact using an upper punch 40 having a caliber 46 consisting of combination of a dividing face 42, a rack tooth form 44 and a cylindrical face of the same diameter with the caliber 32 to form a steering rod 16 in which a partial cylindrical part 48 and desired rack tooth form shaped part 49 (14) are formed. As the material is a hollow pipe, energy for plastic working is small, and unlike the case where a solid rod is used as a material, no flash is generated, and equipment and time for removing flash are unnecessary. |
