PURPOSE:To provide titled glass which has no foam in the sectional part of an optical fiber, is round in core diameter and has excellent transmission characteristics by consisting the same of the glass wherein the average compsn. in the core region contains respectively prescribed ratios of silica, germanium oxide, (Al2O3+Ga2O3) and F and the clad is SiO2 or F-contg. SiO2 glass. CONSTITUTION:Glass for optical fiber consisting of a core whose average compsn. (wt%) consists of 65<=SiO2<=85, 5<=GeO2<=20, 5<=(Al2O3+Ga2O3)<=15, O<=F<=3 and a clad which consists of SiO2 or F-contg. SiO2. This glass can constitute easily the fiber, known as high NA fiber, which has particularly a large difference in the refractive index between the core and the clad and has excellent characteristics. The glass for optical fiber has complete roundness in core diameter and has excellent dimensional accuracy, weather resistance and mechanical strength. |
