<p>PURPOSE:To improve the properties, such as those as an adhesive, coating agent, and especially a hot melt adhesive for clothing, of an ethylene copolymer, by grafting a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic vinyl monomer onto the ethylene copolymer having a comonomer content of a specified range. CONSTITUTION:Below 10wt% nitrogen-containing heterocyclic vinyl monomer (e.g., 4-vinylpyridine) is grafted onto an ethylene copolymer which is either an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer (one having a bounded vinyl acetate content of 8-45wt%) or an ethylene/ethyl acrylate copolymer (one having a bounded ethyl acrylate content of 8-45wt%). The modified ethylene copolymer thus-produced has very excellent adhesiveness. The above grafting can be effected by adding the nitrogen-containing heterocyclic vinyl monomer to an organic solvent containing the above ethylene copolymer and heating the mixture in the presence of a radical generator.</p> |
