PURPOSE:To increase the accuracy and the efficency for the recognition of characters, by performing the discrimination between the characters to which a delicate curve is used for a standard of decision for the recognition of characters by referring to the storage contents of a feature resemblance dictionary. CONSTITUTION:A character pattern normalized through a superposing circuit 14 is superposed on a standard character pattern stored in a main resemblance dictionary 15. Then plural characters are selected as the candidate characters in the order of the larger degree of resemblance. The candidate charcters plus the degree of resemblance among them are supplied to a deciding circuit 16 to be checked whether they are coincident with the subset stored in a feature resemblance dictionary 17 as well as with the combination of the candidate characters. When a coinidence is obtained, a superposing circuit 18 carries out the control. If no coincidence is obtained, the candidate characters are sent to an editing circuit 19. The resemblance is calculated at the circuit 18 between the patterns of plural candidate characters of the dictionary 17 and the normalized character pattern. On the other hand, the circuit 19 delivers a candidate character having the highest resemblance as an answer or leaves the decision to a structure analyzing circuit 20 through a decision. |
