PURPOSE:To provide the subject new compound useful as a raw material for biodegradable polymers. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula I (R<1> is 1-10C alkyl). It can be produced by reacting a compound of formula II (R<2> is same as R<1>) (preferably methyl 3-hydroxybutyrate) in the presence of an ester interchange catalyst (preferably dialkyltin oxide such as dibutyltin oxide). |
