PURPOSE:To provide the wall construction of a converter which decreases dislodging of bricks and is effective for the longer life of the converter by using non-combustible carbon-bound brick which contains a carbon material and Al respectively at prescribed proportions and consists of the balance magnesia clinker for lining the converter wall. CONSTITUTION:Binder, such as tar, pitch or the like, which forms carbon when heated, is added to a refractory material formed of blank materials respectively having controlled grain sizes and the mixture is kneaded. The mixture is molded under compression by an ordinary method and is then heat-treated, whereby the non-combustible carbon-bound brick is obtd. The brick is constituted of 3- 40wt%, more particularly 5-30wt% carbon material, 1-10wt%, more particularly 1-5wt% Al and the balance magnesia clinker. If the carbon bound brick is lined over the entire surface of the inside wall in the belly part and sloped part of the converter, a satisfactory result is obtained but a good result is also obtainable simply by lining the charging side and/or trunnion side where abrasion is particularly heavy with said brick. |
