PURPOSE:To effectively utilize a partially defected solid-state image pickup element and thus improve the substantial production yield of the element, by making an arrangement that output signals of two solid-state image pickup elements are outputted after they are selectively switched to each other or composite together. CONSTITUTION:In two solid-state image pickup elements 3a and 3b, their defective parts (shown by ''x'' marks) are previously detected and they are selected because they do not have the same defective part. The defective part or line address of the main solid-state image pickup element 3a is written in a deciding circuit 8. The output signals from the two solid-state image pickup elements 3a and 3b are selectively outputted by an analog multiplexer 7 which acts as an outputting circuit. Upon receiving the detected signal from the circuit 8, the multiplexer 7 outputs after switching to the signal from the auxiliary solid- state image pickup device 3b when the defective line in the main solid-state image pickup element 3a is scanned. Namely, by utilizing nondefective lines of the two solid-state image pickup elements, a video signal having no defect is formed. |
