PURPOSE:To attain ease of usage very much and to improve the input speed be designing the system that the retrieval is done for all the inputs of readings and a part of input. CONSTITUTION:An input device 2 sections Kanji addresses into plural levels and inputs them as input readings while inserting a section code at each level. Further, a conversion table between the Kanji address sectioned into plural levels and the corresponding stored readings is incorporated in a storage device 4. A controller 15 compares the input reading of the inputted level from the input device at each level represented with the section code with the stored readings corresponding to the plural Kanji address groups read out from the storage device of the same level. If there exists no concidence between the entire input readings of this level and the entire stored readings of the same level, the portion exceeding the number of characters detected is neglected and the entire input readings are compared 13 again sequentially.
