At an arrangement for lifting patients through an apparatus of the type which includes a vertically adjustable device to which is attached a support which function is to serve as base board for the patient during lifting and as a support a divisible stretcher (4) consisting of two preferably through automatic couplers (9) internally rigid connectable halves (10, 10') which are inserted from opposite sides under the bedridden patient (8) and joined to each other creating a rigid, strongly supportable stretcher which thereafter through raising by the mentioned vertically adjustable device lifts to a level above the patient's original base board, for e.g. a bed (1).
