PURPOSE:To provide a piston of a light weight and a large mechanical strength by manufacturing at least the upper part of the disc-shaped head of the piston by a heat resisting material and the skirts by a combined material of fiber reinforced resins, and bonding both disc-shaped head and the skirts to each other. CONSTITUTION:The piston consists of the disc-shaped head 1 and the cylinder- shaped skirts 2. Both the head 1 and the skirts 2 are bonded together by means of a thermosetting resin such as an epoxy resin, polyimide, unsaturated polyesters, and the like. The head 1, entirely or at least the upper part thereof, is made from a heat resisting material. As the heat resisting material, ceramics such as silicone nitride, silicone carbide or the like, an aluminum alloy is employed. The skirts 2 are made from the combined material of fiber reinforced resins such as carbon fibers, glass fibers and the like. As the resin, a thermosetting resin such as an epoxy resin, polyimide, polyesters or the like, is preferably used. The skirts 2 are manufactured by a filament winding method and a tape winding method. |
