PURPOSE:To set detection positions of leakage light from a light source and optical fibers at a connection position and its vicinity, by moving optical fibers relatively by the known amount of axis shifting after positioning the optical fibers on the basis of an exit optical axis. CONSTITUTION:A couple of optical fibers 1a and 1b to be aligned with each other are arranged opposite to each other and the light source 2 is installed between connection end surfaces. One or two light sources 2 may be usable and when two light sources are used, light from one light source 2a is entered into the connection end surface of the optical fiber 1a, and light from the other light source 2b is entered into the connection end surface of the optical fiber 1b. Leakage light detectors 3a and 3b are provided near the connection ends of the fibers 1a and 1b. While light forced to leak is monitored by the detectors 3a and 3b, the optical fibers 1a and 1b are moved continuously until a maximum light quantity level is displayed, thus aligning the optical fibers with each other. |
