PURPOSE:To prevent any disruption of a cylindrical alkaline primary battery by suppressing the increase in its internal pressure by installing a spongy cadmium metal on the negative mixture. CONSTITUTION:After a cylindrically formed positive mixture 5 consisting of mercury oxide, manganese dioxide and graphite is inserted into a metallic case 4, the case 4 is provided with an annular groove. Next, after a separator 6 is placed inside the cylindrical positive mixture 5, electrolyte is poured, then a negative mixture 7 made of a kneaded mixture consisting of zinc, the electrolyte and a thickener is packed. Next, a separating sheet 10 having a center hole through which a current-collecting member 2 penetrates is positioned inside the separator 6, then a spongy cadmium metal 9 is placed on the separating sheet 10. After that, a sealing plate which has a current collector and is combined with a sealing ring 3, is placed on the annular groove of the metallic case 4 so as to seal the battery. Here, in order to increase the reactivity of the spongy cadmium metal 9 with oxygen, the metal 9 is moistened by the electrolyte beforehand. As a result, since the spongy cadmium metal 9 changes into cadmium hydroxide by reacting with oxygen which diffuses into the negative mixture 7 after being generated in the positive electrode when the battery is charged due to connection error or the like, any increase in the internal pressure of the battery is prevented temporarily. |
