A simplified Owen bridge comprises a fixed capacitor (2) in one arm with a fixed resistor (3) in a second arm. An adjustable resistor (4) is included in a third arm to allow bridge balance to be obtained. An inductor (5) connected into the fourth arm has its inductance varied by a magnetic field from a magnet or electromagnet. The bridge output voltage is detected and amplified to give an unbalance voltage which is positive or negative. This voltage provides servo control for the magnetic field to cancel variations due to the inductor. This servo control may be applied to the variable resistor to provide automatic bridge balancing and display of the resistance value.
