PURPOSE:To improve a cushioning effect and to reduce the cost by manufacturing cushioning material for protecting an article, which is used in placing weighty goods or fragile article on the floor surface, by boundling a lot of thermoplastic resin small tubes into a rod and fusing and connecting the small tubes to each other at both end portions thereof. CONSTITUTION:Hollow small tubes 1 made of thermoplastic resin such as chloroethylene, polyethylene, or the like are bundled into a rod, binding same by a string a ribbon or the like 2' or grasping same by a machine chuck, fusing the bundled small tubes 1 by a heating element such as a burner flame, a heating wire or a heating plate 6, and cutting same to a suitable length. Subsequently, the fused portion of a fusing section 7 is cooled by water cooling or natural air cooling and solidified. Thus, the small tubes are connected to each other and united in a body at both ends thereof to obtain a cushioning material united like a rod. The thus formed cushioning material has high elasticity, so that the occurrence of a crack of an article to be cushioned can be reduced and water resistance can be improved. |
