METHOD FOR RESTORING A BROKEN WIRE ELECTRODE

In a wire electrode-type discharge machine (DMAC) a workpiece (12) is machined to a desired shape whilst being moved relatively to a wire electrode (2).
To provide for restoration of operation after the wire electrode (2) has broken, arrangement are made so that the position of breakage (CP) is stored in a memory (WME). A machining starting point (SP) is also stored in a memory (WME). The wire electrode (2) is brought from the position of breakage (CP) to the machining starting point (SP) and the wire electrode (2) is returned to its feed system. The wire electrode is then returned to the position of breakage (CP) and machining of the workpiece (12) is resumed.
