A process and a device for the braiding or braiding round of ropes or the like composed of a plurality of yarns or the like which are each unwound from a wound yarn stock of limited capacity, before the complete consumption of a yarn stock the free yarn end of a new yarn stock being inserted into the braiding, and after the complete consumption of a yarn stock the latter being replaced by the new yarn stock.
