A tripod for accommodating geodetic instruments has first centring fitting elements (1, 2a, 2b, 2c) into which an instrument can be inserted with a corresponding centring flange. The setting-down position for the instrument is unambiguously determined in the tripod. Second centring fitting elements (6, 7a, 7b, 7c) are arranged in an accurately defined position opposite the first centring fitting elements. The second centring fitting elements are used for accommodating an optical plumb bob (10). The two centring fitting elements are correlated in such a manner that the axis (B-B) of the optical plumb bob (10) mandatorily coincides with the vertical axis (A-A) of the instrument to be placed on. The optical plumb bob (10) is detachably attached to the tripod so that it can be mounted as required in the manner of a kit. <IMAGE>
