<p>A pannier for a cycle adapted to be secured to a carrier rack mounted over a wheel. A flexible, generally rectangular bag (36) is of sufficient size that its rear portion extends downwardly from the carrier closely adjacent to the spokes (11) of the wheel (13). A rigid panel (12) fixed to the rear of the bag (36) and extending substantially to the bottom of the bag (36) is utilized to provide structural definition for the bag and to prevent it from interfering with the spokes (11). A U-shaped bar (14) having opposed ends (16 and 18) pivotally connected to the rear panel (12) is employed for holding the bag (36) in an open or collapsed condition. In one embodiment a second panel (22) extends substantially across the bottom of the bag (36) and is pivotally connected to the lower edge of the first panel (12) to provide lateral stability for the bag (36). The opposed ends (16 and 18) of the bar (14) may be utilized as pivot pins for both the panels and the bar.</p> |
