In order to generate a control voltage (UBST) in an electronic flash unit (1), which is intended to be used to set the aperture on a camera (27) to which it is coupled, a voltage divider is provided which consists of a fixed resistor (31) and a series of selectable resistors (21), the selectable resistors (21) being arranged on a displaceable carrier plate (30), which is mechanically coupled to a setting element (29) for the film speed, and being connected in each case at one end to a busbar (32) which is connected to the fixed resistor (31), while the other terminal ends of the selectable resistors (21) are connected in each case to contact pieces (33), which are mounted on the carrier plate (30) and slide, during the displacement of the carrier plate (30), along on different sliding contacts (34) which are connected to contacts of a selector switch (22) which is mechanically coupled to another setting element (15) for the desired amount of light.
