A device for aerating and deaerating the interior, formed by the lens, housing and reflector, of headlamps for vehicles, in particular motor vehicles, has an aeration duct on the lower housing rim and a deaeration duct on the upper housing rim. The aeration duct is integrated into the lower headlamp mount and is constructed in a manner known per se as a labyrinth seal. The deaeration duct is provided by two openings, which are mutually offset laterally in the upper headlamp rim and are connected to one another by a duct extending along the upper housing rim. An aeration and deaeration device having the preceding features can be produced simply and in a cost-saving way and effectively prevents the formation of condensate in the interior of the headlamp housing, and guarantees a rapid removal of condensed water that has already been deposited.
