A process for producing diaryl sulfones, which comprises reacting a mixture of an aromatic hydrocarbon represented by formula I: (wherein one of X and Y represents a halogen atom, and the other represents a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom) and an aromatic sulfonic acid represented by formula II: (wherein X and Y are the same as defined above) with a chlorosulfonic acid.
