The device for the introduction of a catheter (7) or the like into a body cavity comprises a guide piece (1) which can optionally be divided in the longitudinal direction and has a passage open at either end which has a bearing surface (6) for the catheter (7) and, above this surface, a wedge-shaped hollow space (10). The constriction of the hollow space (10) is located at the inlet end (9) of the passage, and a cylindrical roll (8) can be moved freely to and fro between the wide and the constricted parts of the wedge-shaped hollow space (10) and presses the catheter (7) against the bearing surface (6) in the constriction of the wedge-shaped hollow space (10). Such a device contains a withdrawal lock which meets increased safety requirements and which does not impair advance of the catheter (7) and completely and automatically blocks retraction thereof or, if desired, drastically reduces the speed of this. <IMAGE>
