PURPOSE:To largely decrease noises generated in the charge detection part of a CCD by giving gradient to the channel potential under a reset gate. CONSTITUTION:If the channel width under the reset gate phiR is narrowed sufficiently on the side of a floating diffused layer FD, and wideded sufficiently (twice or more larger than on the FD side) on the side of a reset drain RD, the channel potential under the reset gate phiR is given such a gradient that the side of the reset drain RD becomes lower by the narrow channel effect. Therefore, charges existing under the phiR when the reset gate phiR is in an ''ON'' state rapidly return to the side of the reset drain RD according to the potential gradient when the phiR becomes ''OFF'', and then the charges which re-flow into the side of the floating diffused layer FD become extremely less. Therefore, the noise to generate with the indefinite property of re-inflow charges is largely reduced. |
