NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (Me represents CH3; n is 0-4,000). EXAMPLE:1-[-gamma-2',3'-Dihydroxypropoxy)propyl]-1,1,3,3,3-pentamethyl disiloxane. USE:A surface modifying agent for synthetic resins, capable of imparting water repellency, non-adhesivity, antistaining property etc., to synthetic resin moldings. PREPARATION:For example, 1,2-bis(trimethylsiloxy)-3-allyloxypropane expressed by formula II is reacted with a compound expressed by formula III (example; pentamethyldisiloxane, etc.) in an inert gas atmosphere in the presence of a catalyst, for example chloroplatinic acid, etc., followed by heating, for example in methanol to carry out detrimethylsilylation. A compound expressed by formula III wherein n is >=1 is obtained by conducting living polymerization of hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane with, for example, sodium trimethylsilanolate, etc., using dimethylchlorosilane as a chain terminator.
