PURPOSE:To manufacture an anode enabling the electrolysis of water at low voltage, by coating an ion exchange membrane with rhodium black obtd. by adding NaBH4 to an alkaline aqueous soln. of RhCl3. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous soln. of RhCl3 is made alkaline by adding KOH or the like, and a large excess of NaBH4 over the stoichiometric amount is added to the soln. as a reducing agent while violently stirring the soln. The resulting rhodium black is separated by filtration, well washed in water, and air-dried. An ion exchange membrane is coated with the rhodium black, and the coated side is used as an anode for the electrolysis of water. |
